NPSC BASKETBALL PRACTICE
One (1) Hour Practice · Middle School · Half Court · 3 Baskets · 6 p.m.
5:45- PRE PRACTICE · in the hallway or any open area - review practice plans, basketball talk, ball handling if permissible.
6:00 · INDIVIDUAL WARM UPS · All players with their own ball - 5 to 10 min warm up. Teach two of your players before the first practice to be the out front as warm up captains, change captains as others learn drills
Drills - Ball Handling - Dribbling - Triple Threat (go & rip moves) - Pivots - Grabbing loose ball - backboard rebound, etc.
Additional Warm Up Drills:
1. Line Drill: dribbling cross court and stopping and pivoting. (all players with ball)
2. Free Throw Line Drill · dribbling I pivoting I passing drill ( two balls )
3.Full Court Two On a Ball · lay up I dribbling I passing drill
6:10 - Shooting Drills · 5 to 1 0 minutes
1. Lay Up Lines: All players with a ball
2. Two Line Shooting:two balls (catching, triple threat, shoot, rip & go moves)
3. Read Defense Drill · (triple threat, catch & shoot, go & rip moves)
6:20 · Defensive Drills (10 min)
1. Mass Drill - stance, slides side to side - forward & back
2. Triangle Slide drill and/or run - slide - run - slide
3. Guarding

6. Guarding Dribble man without the ball basketball cut cutters from off the ball
7. Blocking out
8. Shell Drill
6:30 - Team Offense (20 to 25 min) · a team of 8 player, have two parents, brothers, or sisters play defense for 5 on 5 drills; have 5 players learn learn the offense, half court plays, UOB & SOB plays, then sub in 3 other players Leave the two that understand the offense on offense.
Zone and Man Offense ·
5 Man Motion Offense · simple rules (a) pass and basket cut (b) pass and exchange or pick opposite (c) Dribble to basket and pass to open teammate - "Drive and Kick" (d) Fill spots vacated by teammate {e) Dribble out teammate and rotate.
4 out 1 in Motion Type Offense · very similar to 5 - o offense except bigger player can play in close to the basket.
Double Post Offense · good for team with two bigger players

6:55 - Wrap-up Meeting
1. Review practice - go over each segment and be positive
2. Go over next game or practice times
3. Review areas for improvement
4. Basketball Homework - a ball handling drill or a 1 on none shooting or a Dad or Mother - Son or Daughter practice drill.
5. Tell your team you care and want them to keep having fun at basketball.
6.End with a team cheer - like who are we?? ....and they answer the "The Falcons" or whatever ...
